2 & 3 OCTOBER 2010
OPEN BOSUN DINGHY REGATTA

REVIEW OF THE 2009 EVENT FROM THE BOSUN OPEN COMMITTEE

For the second year running the weekend was severely disrupted by the weather with no
chance of racing at all on Saturday; however this proved to be the perfect opportunity for a
comprehensive race briefing by Ken Bichard. With all entrants prepared, raring to go and
the weather easing sufficiently, Ken staged six exciting races on Sunday.

We would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm and endurance for taking part in the
2009 event and thanks Ken Bichard and the invaluable expertise of his voluntary Safety
Boat crews the results were very close with only four points separating the first four boats.

Congratulations to the top three winners of the 2009 event:

* The overall winners, David and Michael Dray representing Littleton SC, Hawley
Lake were presented with the Millennium Cup and Bosun Open 2009 tankards.

* Presented with second place Bosun Open 2009 wine goblets and representing
the Salisbury Sea Cadets our congratulations go to Andrew Musselwhite and
David Sargent.

* Also representing Salisbury Sea Cadets and receiving the third place Bosun
Open 2009 tankards were Rob Harper and Henry Wainwright. Henry was also
presented with our new trophy for the winning Cadet.

The Civilian Trophy Plaque is presented to the winning civilian team and as happened
last year these were also the overall winners David and Michael Dray who considerately
suggested the Trophy be presented to the fourth place winners Jim Lowden and Frank
Rainsborough representing the Aquarius Sailing Club, Hampton, Middlesex. We would
like to thank you David and Michael for this thoughtful gesture.

Well done to Bridie Hawkins crewing for Robert Picknell, representing Worthing Sea
Cadets for battling through the weather to achieve 5th place.

The Geoff Preshner U3A Cup (University of the Third Age - Hertford Branch) was
successfully retained for the second year running by 'the two Joyces', Mrs Joyce Brown
and Mrs Joyce Clark, congratulations again to you both.

Well done also to our single handed sailors Dave Field and Tony Hopkins. Our entrants
this year also represented RNSC, MOD and TS Orion, Nottingham, many thanks to you all
for taking part in our weekend of racing in Portsmouth Harbour and for turning out year
after year in sometimes appalling conditions.

Thank you again to Ken Bichard and all at the RNSC for helping us to make this event so
successful.

Please note that entrants do not have to belong to any organisation or service as this is an
open to all event and Bosuns are provided.

We look forward to seeing old and new friends in 2010.
