Back
in 1985 when at one of our Sea Cadet Corps National Sailing regattas
the adult instructors organised a race called the 'All Comers Race'.
This was arranged at the end of the National event and gave the instructors
and adult organisers a chance to have a race for themselves.
When
the Toppers came in and the National Regatta got larger, the 'All Comers
Race' was squeezed out due to lack of time.
Following
one of the Sea Cadet event review sessions; which happen after every
National event, they pleaded with me to restart the event, and it was
decided to move it to the end of the sailing season to give everyone
a chance to take part, and so the 'Open Bosun' race was born.
When
I retired in 1995 John Chambers replaced me as Headquarters Staff Officer
Boats and we continued to run the event together.
John
has since retired and the Sea Cadet Corps no longer has the time to
devote to this event and so John and I tried to continue it on our own.
Last
years 2006 event was very successful and we are delighted that the race
appears to have regained the enthusiasm and numbers to take it forward
again for another year. We look forward to seeing familiar and new faces
in September 2007.
We
now have a website kindly set up by Chris Biglin, where you can download
posters and race entry forms and look at photographs of the event taken
over the years.
We
always are on the lookout for any ideas or additional members for the
committee so please contact us anytime with your thoughts.
